The restricted zone offers a higher level of security and is intended for sites that you don't trust. When a web site is added to Internet Explorer's restricted zone it will not be able to perform many of the operations that are enabled by default, such as running Java applets, running ActiveX controls, downloading files, etc. Keep in mind that these sites may not function as intended because of the disabled operations.
To manually add or remove sites from the
restricted zone,
start Internet Explorer -> Tools ->
Internet Options -> Security. Select the
Restricted sites icon and click Sites.
To modify the security level of the restricted
zone, start Internet Explorer -> Tools ->
Internet Options -> Security. Select the
Restricted sites icon and click the Custom button.
You can configure the zone to disable, prompt
or run different types of content, such as
Java applets and ActiveX controls. Disabling
content is generally preferred for the
restricted zone.
